I achieved my third Hole-in-One in the Ladies Golf Charity at Orchid Country Club on August 19, 2002. This was a very auspicious day for me as it was the third anniversary of the demise of my late father. It occurred at 3:30 pm, the same time 3 years before that I was called to resuscitate my father from a heart attack. Coincidently, this was also the most difficult hole to achieve a hole-in-one, with the pin placement at an incline. It was the Dendro 4^th hole. But the ball bounced twice and rolled straight into the hole.

My late father had always said that he would give his money to Charity. He did not live to fulfill his wish. I was at that time also training for the Singapore Women’s Golf Team and to remain in the team, I had to be an amateur. Thus with all the obvious circumstances, I felt that this ace with the prize of a Mercedes C180 waiting at my door was meant for the needy. I did not need a new Mercedes car as I was satisfied with what I already owned. The decision to give the prize to charity was not difficult.

I selected these 3 charities because they satisfied my criteria of giving to the needy, young and old. I was very impressed with METTA Foundation’s support for the disabled young as well as for the old, irregardless of religion. The Society for the Aged Sick touched my heart tremendously with trained nursing care and assistance given to the sick and old who had no means to be looked after by their families.

My respect and gratitude goes to my alma mater which had contributed to the development of girls with the “JinYu” philosophy, values and tradition. All my 4 daughters were also given a taste of this tradition in Singapore Chinese Girls School. Undoubtedly, the school that has brought me up and moulded me with these traditional values would remain closest to my heart in terms of charitable support.
